World Cup carrom to be held in Delhi

HYDERABAD: The All India Carrom Federation, under the aegis of International Carrom Federation, will organise the second World Cup championship in Delhi from November 17 to 21, according to B.K. Haranath, AICF media committee chairman.

Mr. Haranath said that each of the 16 member countries would be fielding four men and four women players for the event. He also said that the doubles would be a knockout affair while singles will be on league-cum-knockout basis.

With the European Cup championshpi in France in June this year and followed by SAARC championship in Sri Lanka, the big names of the sport are expected to face stiff challenge from many contenders, said Harnath.

Easy for SBI

State Bank of India scored an emphatic 6-0 win over MCH Chintalbasthi in the MCH open hockey tournament at the Begumpet Police Stadium here. The winner led 3-0 at the break.

A brace each by Nagaraj, Surender and fine solo efforts by Chandrasekhar and Chandra Kumar completed the tally for the winners.

Bhavan's `B' in final

Bhavan's Junior College `B' moved into the final of the Parle Cup (under-17) cricket tournament with a 10-run win against Vasundara Junior College here.

The scores: Parle Cup: semifinal: Bhavan's `B' 182 for eight (Chandrakanth 75, Nimeesh Reddy 64, Sai Venkatesh three for 37) bt Vasundara Jr College 172 (Sundeep Rajan 53, Praneeth 48).

Quarterfinals: Sec'bad Public School 147 (Md.Sharif 46, Gokul Singh 49, Akshay Gupta five for 13, Kaleem four for 26) lost to HPS Begumpet 148 for seven (Likith three for 22).

A-Institution (one-day): HMT Bearings 177 (Laxman 57) lost to BHEL 181 for five (Dinesh 44).

Midhani 108 (Suresh five for 17) lost to Postal 110 for three.

A-Institution league: Apseb 129 (Srinath 58, Nataraj four for 40) lost to HAL 130 for three (Arun 50 not out).

Someswara beats Rahul

K. Someswara Rao defeated D.S. Rahul 150-94, 152-24 in the billiards pre-quarterfinal of the third-leg of AP State open billiards and snooker tournament at Jubilee Hills International Centre here.

Bhavana in title round

Bhavana Priyanka will take on T. Laharitha in the girls' under-14 final of the Transworld Foundation mini and sub-junior tennis tournament at Indira Park here on Sunday.

In the semifinals on Saturday, Bhavana defeated Alokika 6-0 while, Laharitha put it across a fighting Sumalya Hari Haran 6-5 (7-3).

The results: Girls: Under-12: Seema Mirza (Grandslam) bt B. Moulika Ram 6-1; Bhavana Priyianka (Pro Tennis) bt Uttam Swaroop (Power Tennis) 6-3.

Chess selections

Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will organise selections on November 11 and 12 at Brilliant Grammar School (Dilsukhnagar) to pick the State team for the National (Under-9) championship to be held in Sholapur from December 5 to 13.

Bodybuilding competitions
