Thiruvananthapuram wins overall title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Educational District won the overall title in the 37th State schools aquatic meet that concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Saturday.

Thiruvananthapuram, which came first in all six categories, finished with 444 points way ahead of second placed Attingal (296). Centralised Sports Hostel, Thiruvananthapuram, won the water polo title.

Eight new meet records were set on the final day with Milan Kadukattil (SAI Tsr) setting his third record of the meet in senior boys (sports division) 200m freestyle event. Milan won the 200m freestyle event clocking 2:07.34 to erase T.K. Vimal Kumar's old mark (2:13.90) set in 2003.

However, the day belonged to A.S. Archana (Attingal) who became the sole general school ward to enter the record books on the final day. She did it in style in the sub-junior girls 50m freestyle event by breaking Sony Cyriac's eight-year-old record. Archana clocked 0:32.58 seconds to better Sony's mark (0:33.14) set in 1998.
