VIJAYAWADA: Malleswaram MLA Buragadda Vedavyas and a team of officials had a providential escape when a boat, in which they were travelling, capsized in Lajjabanda drain at Nandamuru village of Pedana mandal on Saturday. The MLA's gunman, Seshayya, and a CRPF jawan, Babu Rao, were washed away. Efforts are on to trace them. The incident occurred around 3.30 p.m., when Mr. Vedavyas boarded a country-made boat, fitted with an engine, in Nandamuru village near a bridge on Lajjabanda to go to the interior areas.
Villagers ventured into the drain and rescued the MLA and the officials. As Mr. Vedavyas, D. Vijaya Sekhar, MRO, and R. Srinivasa Rao, revenue inspector, fainted, they were shifted to the Government hospital in Machilipatnam. Doctors said that their condition was stable.
