Slew of projects planned

Focus on school students in view of Children's Day


  • Projects in connection with 140th anniversary of Kozhikode corporation
  • To bring out health status report

    KOZHIKODE: The city corporation has chalked out a list of projects, which will touch on educational, developmental, cultural and health aspects, to be implemented in November.

    Mayor M. Bhaskaran told presspersons here on Saturday that the projects in connection with the 140th anniversary of the civic body were being implemented with added focus on schoolchildren in view of Children's Day on November 14.

    Painting contest

    The Mayor said that on November 12, a painting contest, to be inaugurated by Paul Kallanode, artist, would be conducted at the Indoor Stadium for students in pre-primary, primary, upper primary, high school and higher secondary classes.

    Trophies for the first, second and third places in each category, besides consolation prizes and certificates to winners, would be presented at a programme in the Indoor Stadium on November 14.

    As a number of schools in the city had troupes, contests in children's band would be organised at the Mananchira on November 14.

    On November 12 and 13, a children's film festival would be organised at the Indoor Stadium.

    The valedictory programme on November 14 would feature a recital by Chandrakantam, the S.K. Pottekkat Centre children's band troupe, and a magic show by Harshad, class 8 student of St. Joseph's High School here.

    Health survey

    A major programme on the anvil was an urban public health survey to be conducted with assistance of the students of the Government medical college on a random basis in two to three per cent of the households in the corporation wards.

    The six-month survey would bring out the health status report that would throw light on the incidence of lifestyle diseases and provide other indicators.

    A free diabetes camp would be held with assistance of the Malabar Diabetic Foundation and Research Centre at the Kandamkulam Jubilee Hall on November 13 and 14. On the occasion of World Diabetic Day on November 14, a diabetic walk would be taken out from the stadium.

    Wide variety of roses would be showcased at the Rose Show being held with assistance of the Kozhikode Horticulture Development Society at the Town Hall from November 11 to 14. Laying the foundation stone of the art gallery, reopening of the Reproductive Child Health Project were Neelichira pond renovation are some of the projects to be inaugurated.
