Jacqueline and Monisha in semifinals

BANGALORE: Jacqueline Kunnath and Monisha Vinayak entered the women's singles semifinals of the M.S. Ramaiah-Anandashram State ranking badminton championship at the Prakash Courts here on Saturday.

Jacqueline defeated Sangeetha 21-6, 21-6 and Monisha also scored an easy 21-7, 21-1 win over Varsha Srinivas. G.M. Nischitha and Ruth Misha, received walk-overs in the other two quarterfinal ties.

In the men's singles, all the fancied players including Adip Nayak, V. Amar, Anup Kiran and Abhijith Naimpally entered the quarterfinals.

Women: singles: quarterfinals: Jacqueline Kunnath bt Sangeetha 21-6, 21-6; Monisha Vinayak bt Varsha Srinivas 21-7, 21-10; G.M. Nischitha w/o Sumalatha; Ruth Misha w/o Sneha Rao.

Veteran's singles: S.K.B. Naidu w/o Shankar Raju; M. Purohit bt B.P. Shankar 23-21,21-19; V.A. Joshi bt Panduranga Rao 21-5, 21-15.

Big win

Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College outplayed Naveen Hockey Club 7-0 in the BEL Colony Youth Association's State-level championship at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here on Saturday.

S. Pradeep and Naimuddin scored a brace each and other scorers were H.N. Prasad, R. Dillan and Avinash.

The other match between AGORC and Kaveri Hockey Club was called off after 20 minutes of play, following incessant rain.

Savur pips Madhu

Arvind Savur defeated Madhu Chandra 74-11, 57-27, 69-34, 60-15 in a State senior ranking snooker tournament match at the KSBA Hall here on Saturday.
