MYSORE: The University of Mysore will release five volumes of a Kannada encyclopaedia and an abridged version of the A to Z English-Kannada dictionary this year to mark "Suvarna Karnataka" celebrations. Vice-Chancellor J. Shashidhar Prasad told presspersons here on Saturday that the multi-volume Kannada encyclopaedia on various subjects was modelled upon Encyclopaedia Britannica and each volume would comprise 1,100 pages. The volumes on medical sciences and Information Technology were ready and due for release soon. Three other volumes in the series would also be ready this year, he added. The university has also embarked on an Epigraphica Karnataka project, which would contain epigraphic inscriptions found in the State. This would be the first such exercise to be launched by any university in the country, he said. To commemorate Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, the university is also conducting a three-day "Writers Conference," in which Kannada litterateurs from across the State would participate and take stock of 50 years of the State's formation and the future. More than 70 litterateurs would participate in the conference. The three-day conference will be inaugurated by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday.
