Two held for Goa Express murder

Staff Reporter

`The body of the woman was recovered from a trunk'

  • The woman was a resident of Adarsh Nagri in Pune
  • `Culprits had migrated from Bihar to Pune in search of work'

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly killing a woman whose body was found in a trunk in the Goa Express on November 1 at Nizamuddin railway station here.

According to the police, the body of the woman, whose throat had been slit, was recovered from a trunk that was found inside coach No. S-1 on Platform No. 6 around 7 a.m. The police searched the trunk and found a deposit slip from "Chandan Nagri Sehkari Patsanstha Maryadit", a cooperative and credit society in Pune.

A police team reached Pune and traced the society. However, the office-bearers could not identify the woman. The police then managed to trace out the man who used to collect payments on behalf of the society. He identified the woman as Geeta, a resident of Adarsh Nagri in Pune.

At the address, the police came across two persons, Jaswant Singh and his brother Rudal Singh. When they questioned them about Geeta, they gave contradictory statements that made the police suspicious. The duo were then questioned at length following which they allegedly confessed to having killed the woman.

The police said Jaswant and Rudal were residents of Siwan in Bihar. They had migrated to Pune in search of work. For the past 18 months Geeta had been living with Jaswant posing as his wife. She had also given Jaswant money from her savings in the cooperative society to carry on his business.

On October 22, Jaswant's wife came to Pune from Siwan. She had an argument with him over Geeta's presence in his house. When Geeta came to know that Jaswant was married and also had a son, she began demanding her money back. Jaswant and Rudal then allegedly decided to eliminate Geeta. They also roped in their accomplice Barhu, a petty criminal of the area, to kill Geeta and dispose of her body.

As per plan, they killed Geeta in their rented house in Adarsh Nagri. They then put her body in an iron trunk and brought it to Pune railway station with Barhu's help. They put the trunk in S-1 coach of the Goa Express and then got off. Further investigations are under way.
