NEW DELHI: In the fourth instance of distress death in the Army within a fortnight, a soldier killed an officer and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) in Manipur on Friday morning before trying to kill himself. Captain S. J. R. Chowdhury and Subedar Ranjeet Dinapu died at the Mungalam Kuki post in Manipur. The alleged killer, Havaldar Avdhesh Sharma, is in critical condition, said a senior officer here. Capt. Chowdhury from the Corps of Signals was on counter-insurgency duty with 19 Assam Rifles, the specialised border management and counter-insurgency force for the North-East. Some of its battalions have also operated in Jammu & Kashmir. Originally from Andhra Pradesh, he was unmarried. The first incident happened in Rajouri district on the border with Pakistan on October 21 in which a soldier killed three colleagues and injured himself. Two days later in the same district, a soldier shot dead two others.
