Congress is responsible for traders' woes, says BJP

Staff Reporter

"We will continue our struggle in the interest of traders till sealing stops"

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said the BJP would continue its public struggle in the interest of the Capital's traders till the sealing operations are stopped permanently. He also demanded that "the Government should not complicate the case and provide a permanent and honourable relief to the affected traders".

Accusing the Congress of deliberately complicating the situation, Dr. Vardhan said the Congress was not in favour of providing relief to the traders. "The Supreme Court during the last hearing had made it clear that it has not obstructed the implementation of Master Plan-2021. In spite of this, the Congress has been evasive because this conspiracy is the gift of the Congress to the people of Delhi.''

Dr. Vardhan said there were three simple ways to solve the case of sealing and demolition. "The first is by calling a special session of Parliament the people should be given relief by framing an amnesty scheme for traders and the general public through consent with all. The second was by putting the law providing relief from sealing and demolitions in Schedule IX of the Constitution thereby solving the problem for all concerned. The third and the easiest way is to notify the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 immediately after amending it according to the present needs of Delhi.''

The BJP leader said that for the last 11 months the Congress leaders in the Central and Delhi governments and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had been making attractive promises to the traders and the public. "Although resolutions to this effect have been passed in Parliament, the Delhi Assembly and the MCD, the traders have not got any relief. The Court is becoming stricter day by day and the Government is watching the entire situation unfold silently. Due to the failure of the Congress the traders are losing their patience and their movement is becoming violent day by day. The Government has not learnt any lesson from four deaths in Seelampur,'' he added.
