CHENNAI: General secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Jayalalithaa on Saturday dubbed the arrest and subsequent release of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA V.S. Babu an "eyewash." In a statement here, she said the arrests were made in the wake of the decision of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to stage demonstrations in the State on November 6 protesting against the violence let loose during the local body elections in Chennai. By arresting Mr. Babu and councillor representing 59th ward of the Chennai Corporation Sekar, the Government attempted to give an impression that the poll violence had taken place only in Purasawalkam, though "irregularities had been committed in all the 155 wards," she said.
