Man arrested for alleged fraud
According to the police, Ranjan Sukhani, proprietor of Pennywise, had cheated the Hauz Khas Branch of Vijaya Bank of Rs. 45 lakhs. "He had submitted forged documents purportedly showing him to be having connection with a firm in the United States. He had produced a forged letter `from the US Embassy' in support of his claim," the police said. Further, the police alleged, he even submitted a legal scrutiny note and a valuation report of a property. However, upon verification the bank found that the property had already been mortgaged. The bank then reported the matter to the police. Investigations revealed that Ranjan had closed his office at Nehru Place and shifted to his in-laws' place in Mumbai. A police team reached there but it came to light that he had left their place too. Finally the police caught him at Sahar Airport in Mumbai, from where he was planning to leave for Singapore, on November 2.
