Children's Parliament today

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Kudumbasree-Balasabha Children's District Parliament will be held at the Corporation Council Hall on Sunday.

Kids from 10 `balapanchayats' in Ernakulam will participate in the deliberations. They will participate in the State-level Parliament to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on November 14 - Children's Day.

The `balasabhas' are functioning under Kudumbasree for the past six years. Ten panchayats are chosen in each district as balapanchayats.

President Afsal K.A., Prime Minister Bismi C. Mathathil and Opposition Leader Ajmal A.A. of the district Parliament interacted with mediapersons on Saturday at the Government Youth Hostel, Kakkanad. They spoke with passion on topics ranging from the raw deal to children from financially poor sections, child labour, divisive party politics and need for a constructive Opposition.

Their other woes included heavy schoolbags, with the suggestion that term-wise textbooks and smaller notebooks be introduced in schools. Also present was Kabeer B Haroon, District Mission Coordinator of Kudumbasree.
