KURNOOL: A colourful rally was taken out from Vinayak temple to Rupala Sangameswara temple on the Jagannatha hill complex on Sunday in connection with "Kartheeka Pournami".

The devotees set out on foot with holy metal pots ("kalasam") on heads to the Vinayak temple. The temple authorities received the rally with all honours and playing of music. Later, the devotees lighted the holy lamps and celebrated the festival of lamps. TTD Project team presented devotional music.

The temple resembling a rock chariot, which was about to be inundated in the foreshore waters of Srisailam reservoir was relocated and rebuilt on the Jagannatha hill complex. The temple was decorated with colourful lamps and arrangements were made for thousands of devotees who flocked to it.

Heavy rush

The APSRTC operated special buses to transport devotees close to the temple, which is located on the top of the hill.

Heavy rush of pilgrims was witnessed at Srisailam on Sunday . According to temple authoririties, 1 lakh pilgrims had darshan and about 30,000 devotees had holy dip in the Krishna.

Anticipating the rush, the temple was opened at 1.30 a.m. and after early morning rituals, darshan was allowed right from 3.30 a.m. Around 2,000 devotees reached the abode of Sri Mallikarjuna on foot from different places to have darshan at the auspicious time.

In evening, thousands witnessed "jwalathoranam" celebration as idols of the Lord and the Goddess Bramarambhika was positioned in a swing under the decorated flames. According to the legend, Goddess Parvathi Devi celebrated Jwalathoranam to mark the victory of Lord Shiva over demon king Tripurasura.

The temple authorities distributed milk to the devotees waiting for darshan.
