Ranganath wins singles and doubles titles

HYDERABAD: V.T. Ranganath bagged a double winning the singles and doubles titles in the above-45 years category of the second GVK-ITF seniors (veterans) tennis tournament at the Fateh Maidan Tennis Complex here on Sunday.

Ranganath defeated T. Purushotham Reddy 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final and later combined with Settu to down the pair of K.R. Raman and V. Shanker 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2 in the doubles final.

In the above-55 years singles final, Madhav Ghate put it across V. Rammohan Rao 6-3, 6-4.

The duo of Nagaraja Rao and S.K. Rednam downed the challenge of R. Ananda and Chengappa 6-4, 6-4 in the above-65 years doubles final.

Vatnani in last four

Lucky Vatnani scored a 150-128, 151-37, 150-95 win over Someswara Rao to enter the billiards semifinal in the third-leg of the State open billiards and snooker tournament here.

St. John's in final

A good knock by Achintya Rao (67 not out, 9x4) helped St. John's Junior College defeat HPS (Begumpet) by six wickets in the semifinal of the Parle Cup (under-17) cricket tournament here.

Parle Cup: HPS (Begumpet) 106 (Vishal Reddy three for 18, Harshavardhan three for 18) lost to St. John's Junior College 109 for four (Achintya Rao 67 not out).

Jayant wins title

Jayant Tagore won the CII-Visaka corporate golf tournament organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry at the Bolarum Golf Course here.

In `B' category, Rajul Astana was the winner, while Ravi Bommakanti finished runner-up and S.P. Ramachandra Rao the second runner-up. The Minister for Sports, M. Satyanarayana Rao, gave away the prizes.

Golf tournament
