VIJAYAWADA: Describing the damage caused by the recent cyclonic rain as unprecedented, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said that it had left such an impact on farmers that they would not be able to go for even `rabi' crop in affected areas. He wanted the Government to understand people's woes and release funds liberally for relief and rehabilitation work.

On the second day of his visit to rain-hit areas in Krishna district, Mr. Naidu passed through Nidumolu, Movva, Kuchipudi, Kodali and Chinnapuram areas. He consoled farmers and affected families at these places.

Addressing a press conference at Machilipatnam, Mr. Naidu contended that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had not promptly responded to the need for mitigating the suffering of people, though there was heavy and widespread damage to crops in the delta.

"The Chief Minister should have stayed back in Machilipatnam to accelerate relief works. But he merely conducted a review meeting and rushed to Vijayawada to leave for Hyderabad. No sincere efforts were made to meet people's needs," the TDP chief said.

Mr. Naidu interacted with affected families at several places and enquired from them whether the officials were providing relief.
