HYDERABAD: A complete overhaul of the solid waste management, including rationalisation of the number of sweeping and garbage collection units will be taken up on Monday, according to MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju. A security guard would be manning each dumper bin to ensure garbage is lifted properly. Rationalising the number of dumper bins was going on, he said. The exercise was to replace open garbage points and open cement bins with covered dumper bins all over the city by the year-end. Transport fleet will be revamped and new compactor trucks, 50-ton trucks for long distance hauls, bob-carts, etc., were added to the wing and more are on way. With the plan to cover door-to-door collection for all households 1,500 more tricycles will be pressed into service in addition to the 3,000 existing tricycles. About 10 cases of dengue have been confirmed in the capital in total. About 700 workers were undertaking anti-larval operations touching 200 houses per day, spreading awareness and spraying insecticides. Besides, he himself was visiting different schools to take up the campaign among children. During the discussion, Sultan Bazar's Shankar Yadav made a startling revelation that more than 250 sweeping units were working in Circle 5 covering Banjara Hills/Jubilee Hills/Begumpet while it was less than 20 units in other Circles.
