BANGALORE: She was the cynosure of all eyes. Her gait was regal, her eyes soulful with limpid pools of black, and she had a thick glossy chocolate and cream coat. With these qualities, it is no wonder that Xena, the crossbreed walked away with the "Most Well Groomed Dog" prize at the "Doggies Day Out" programme conducted by Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA) on Sunday. The event, which is being held for the ninth time, was opened to pedigree as well as non-pedigree dogs. The main objective of conducting this show was to raise funds for setting up an animal sanctuary in Bangalore. "We have unlimited compassion for dogs, but we certainly don't stop here...we act. Our actions will speak for us," said K. Sreenivasan, president, CUPA. He appealed to the public to show more compassion towards animals by donating money for the sanctuary. "I assure that every penny in these funds will travel the distance it has to," he said. More than 95 dogs of seven breeds participated in the show, which was followed by the police canine squad show. B.S.V. Reddy, Dean of KVAFSU, a veterinary college, said: "We have to admit that we always have pets for our pleasure. It is high time we understood their psyche. They require and expect love and attention like we do."
