PNB's total business up

KOZHIKODE:
The total business of Punjab National Bank in Kerala increased to Rs. 2,524.25 crore on September-end, a growth of 24.34 per cent from the Rs. 2,030.17 crore during the corresponding period last year, S.P. Singh, Zonal Manager of the bank, said here on Thursday.
Deposits increased to Rs. 1,428.87 crore from Rs. 1,176.27 crore and advances to Rs. 1,095.38 crore from Rs. 853.9 crore.
Mr. Singh said the bank's overall operating profit rose to Rs. 889 crore from Rs. 684 crore.
During the period, the total business in the country rose to Rs. 2,10,755 crore from Rs. 1,73,282 crore. The deposits grew by 17.4 per cent to Rs. 1,28,415 crore from Rs. 1,09,414 crore.
Low-cost deposits continued to be the thrust area of the bank, making up 48.8 per cent of the total deposits.
Mr. Singh said the bank had initiated various development programmes in the State. The bank offered Internet banking and booking of railway and air tickets and sold 24 carat gold coins. Loans were given against 22-carat gold jewellery.
