Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: S. Kumar Badminton Academy, Banglaore's first private training centre with its own stadium, was inaugurated on Sunday at Biddrahalli, about 16km from the City on the old Madras Road.

The Academy, which was the brainchild of State coach, Shivakumar, has all the facilities. It was a labour of love for the coach who built it at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore.

The facilities were opened by the local MLA, Mr. Krishnappa, Mr. Nagaraj, Hosakote MLA, former track international Ashwini Nachappa and noted National badminton coach U. Vimal Kumar.

Mr. Krishnappa said that the academy fulfils the long felt need of the Whitefield — KR Puram, which lacked even basic playing facilities, and he assured Shivakumar, that he would offer all assistance to him and was ready to involve himself as a working partner for the worthy project.

Vimal Kunmar said: "it takes guts to build a massive sports complex like this at a remote place. Shivkaumar has shown dedication and determination. And the challenge for him begins now only. I hope he and all those, who care about the game make this venture a viable one and I hope new talents emerge from this place."
