Alleged suicide in IIT

Kanpur: Abhilash G.J. Pillai, a 28-year-old research scholar in the IIT here, has allegedly committed suicide.

Police said his body was found on the terrace of a hostel on Monday.

Some cyanide tablets and a suicide note, saying that he was under depression, were recovered.

The note also said he wanted to commit suicide earlier but could not do so as his younger brother's marriage had been fixed, police said, adding that his family had been informed and the body sent for post-mortem.

His father G.J. Pillai, hailing from Kerala, works for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. He is a resident of Hardwar district. — PTI
