ST Commission's directive

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has asked Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (partly owned by the Tata Group and the Union Government) Chairman Subodh Bhargava to produce the original records regarding the action taken on alleged complaints by some ST employees.

The NCST has also sent a copy for "information and necessary action" to Tata Group chief Ratan Tata.

The Commission wanted a report within seven days for placing before the Chairman failing which it would be constrained to invoke its powers, said a letter. The directive follows the inability of the company to comply with the Commission's request of October 18 to furnish all action taken reports. The Commission found that there appeared to be "a case of discrimination with harassment of the petitioner."
