Breaking the rules

Think of `a great open space' in Thiruvananthapuram city and most people will probably think of the Museum complex, the Kanakakkunnu palace or the Shanghumughom beach. A breath of fresh air is invariably what brings the city dwellers to these places. Increasingly though, fresh air seems to be the one thing that people are not getting at these places thanks to those who do not think twice of smoking here. As very few people, if at all, object openly and ask smokers to snuff out their cigarettes, this form of atmospheric pollution continues unhindered. Moreover, in all these places, there is no one to whom a non-smoker can complain.

That is not all. Smoking it seems enjoys official patronage at the Museum as the guards themselves can be seen smoking in public. Talk about rules going up in smoke.
