KOCHI: The Indian Computer Education Society (ICES) will organise an IT (Information Technology) exhibition in Kochi from November 30 to December 3. The exhibition is the fourth in a series of annual exhibitions conducted by the society. International and national IT and electronic companies will take part in the exhibition to be held at Town Hall, according to D. Philip, president of the society. There will be a demonstration of the latest gizmos and facility for exchange of computers. Seminars on various IT-related topics and a quiz programme for school students are other features of the event. Computers and other prizes will be given away to the winners of the quiz competition. The ICES is keen on taking computer literacy to rural areas, said E.V. Bhaskara Panicker, its secretary. Certificate courses are being conducted by the society and these have been helpful in spreading computer literacy in the State, he said. Apart from offices in Kerala, the organisation has an office in Tamil Nadu. This apart, there are affiliated centres in various States. The majority of computer institutes functioning under the ICES are situated in rural areas and the society encourages computer literacy programmes in rural areas, according to Joseph Thaliparambil, vice-president of the organisation.
