To make the investigation process foolproof

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to merge the State Vigilance and Enforcement departments into a single entity called the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. The objective of the decision, taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet here on Tuesday, is to improve the conviction rate in vigilance cases by making the investigation process foolproof and legally sustainable, said a spokesman.

The Cabinet also approved regularisation of the 423 contract doctors which included 399 medical officers and 24 medical officers (dental) who have completed the requisite minimum service up to December 31, 2004. The Cabinet approved of uniformity in the contract rates for the faculty members of all the medical colleges in the State and also granted permission for filling up of the 43 posts of ward attendants, Class IV in the medical colleges.

The Cabinet approved the proposal of the Himachal Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (HPSIDC) to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) for exploring the possibilities of entering into the joint venture of pre-feasibility studies for the energy requirements in industrial and other sectors to be met with gas supplies where the State Government would be the third party.
