Anti-cola activists to relaunch stir

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: A joint meeting of the Plachimada Solidarity Committee and the Anti-Coca-Cola Agitation Committee here on Monday decided to organise a public meeting at Plachimada on November 18 as part of launching another round of State-wide struggle against soft drink majors Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola from January next year. The meeting will be addressed by environmentalist and Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Padkar.

In a statement, the organisations criticised the State Government for its failure to enact legislation to realise compensation for the affected people of Plachimada due to the operation of a Coca-Cola bottling unit there. They said that though the Government had taken action against the soft drink majors Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola, there was no follow-up action to close down their plants and wind up their operation.
