Agricultural lands polluted `No action taken so far'
ERODE: The Congress MLA from Kangeyam, Vidiyal S. Sekar, has charged that over 20 industries located at the SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre in Perundurai have been violating pollution control norms by discharging effluents into the drain. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr. Sekar said the effluents were polluting agricultural lands and many people have been affected with various types of diseases due to the contamination of water flowing from the industries. He said complaints have been made with the Collector and Pollution Control Board, but no action has been taken so far. The issue was also discussed at the District Panchayat Development council meeting, he added. He said the effluents discharged from the SPICOT industries, were found stagnated at Elayampalayam Dalit Colony, Elayampalayam village and its surrounding areas. He urged the Chief Minister to take stringent action against the erring industries.
