"Parties must sort out differences"

Staff Reporter

DPA members "did not follow coalition dharma in polls"

COIMBATORE: Parties in the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) had not followed coalition dharma during the civic polls in the State, Union Minister of State for Textiles E.V.K.S. Elangovan said, and urged party leaders to sort out their differences. "The leaders of the DPA parties should sit together and analyse what went wrong, why it happened and sort it out, so that this does not happen in the future," he told reporters here on Tuesday. Problems were normal when elections were being held to 1.3 lakh posts, he said. But what happened was worse than was expected even by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which headed the alliance. It had also happened in Coimbatore where Congressmen fought against their party's official candidates.

Asked about the CPI (M)'s demand for repoll in the Chennai Corporation, he said it was the party's view. The Congress, which had won all the seats it contested, had no complaints.

On the possibility of the formation of a Third Front as the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam of Vijayakant was emerging stronger, he said, "nobody knows what will happen tomorrow."
