CHENNAI: A private firm, Goodearth Maritime Limited has sought permission to set up a world-class ship building facility in the State. Dongshik Shin, chairman, Korea Maritime Consultants Company, the technical adviser of Goodearth, met Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi at the Secretariat on Tuesday and sought clearance for the setting up of the project near Cuddalore. Goodearth Maritime chairman P.B.Anandam briefed the Chief Minister about the project. They informed Mr.Karunanidhi that the total cost of the project would be Rs.1,000 crore. In the first two years, about Rs.500 crore would be spent on the project.
5,000 jobs
About 5,000 persons would be directly employed and about 20,000 people will gain indirect employment by the project, a release said.
