Building collapses

KOTTAYAM: A two-storey commercial building at Moolavattom on the suburbs of the town collapsed in heavy rain on Monday night. There were no casualties as the accident occurred at night. The building, more than two decades old, had housed a textile shop and a financial institution. — Staff Reporter

Seminar on disaster management

KOTTAYAM: A State-level seminar on disaster management will be held at Erattupetta on Thursday. The seminar is being organised as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the State reorganisation. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the seminar. Ramesh Chandra Menon, secretary, Central Disaster Management Committee; M. Baba, former director of CESS; A.V. George, director, Department of Disaster Management, Mahatma Gandhi University, and others will speak. - Staff Reporter

134 projects get nod

THRISSUR: The district planning committee has given approval for 134 projects at its meeting held here on Tuesday. According to an official release, the approved projects include Rs.1.5-crore scheme of the Thrissur Corporation to buy land for rehabilitation of slum colonies and the Rs.9.5-lakh scheme for constructing a road from Edakkulam to the Government Medical College. — Staff Reporter
