R. Shankar remembered

People from all walks of life pay tributes to the leader

KOLLAM: People from all walks of life arrived at the Shankar Smrithi Mandapam, Shankar's Hospital complex, here to pay floral tributes to R. Shankar on his 34th death anniversary on Tuesday.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala and other Congress leaders paid floral tributes at the mandapam at 11 a.m.

Mr. Chennithala placed a wreath at the mandapam.

The former KPCC president C.V. Padmarajan, DCC president Sooranad Rajashekaran and Congress leaders D. Semanthabhadran and A. Shahnavas Khan paid tributes.

Mr. Chennithala inaugurated the commemoration meeting held at the Congress Bhavan.

Leaders of the Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran also paid floral tributes at the mandapam.

District president of the party K. Karunakaran Pillai, State vice-president Koivila Ramachandran and leaders Anzar Rahim, Jayakumar, T.P. Jacob and B. Rajan were present.

Silent march

A silent march was also taken out through the city, under the aegis of the SN Trusts Medical Mission. The SNDP Yogam leaders paid floral tributes at the Shankar statue at Chinnakada and at the mandapam.

Out-patients were given free treatment at the medical mission hospitals, Shankar Hospital, Puthur R. Shankar Hospital and the Punalur R. Shankar Memorial Hospital. Minister for Labour P.K. Gurudasan inaugurated the commemoration meeting organised at the Shankar Hospital complex by the medical mission.

SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan presided.

Mayor N. Padmalochanan distributed the scholarships and endowments.

Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran delivered the commemoration address.

The former Minister Kadavur Sivadasan addressed the gathering.
