THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) S. Soman has sentenced a medical practitioner Ajaya Kumar George, who is running a private clinic in Kozhikode, to four years' rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty of gaining admission at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College using a bogus caste certificate in 1973. Ajaya Kumar George was convicted on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy. The magistrate also sentenced his father, P.K. George, a priest with a Lutheran Church in Cherthala and a resident of Alappuzha to two-years' simple imprisonment on charges of conspiracy. J. Sreekumar, deputy director of prosecution, appeared on behalf of the prosecution. The prosecution case was that Ajaya Kumar George gained admission to the course in the seat reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate by converting himself as `Hindu-Velan' with help of Arya Samajam in Thiruvananthapuram. He was also awarded a conversion certificate. But after obtaining his medical degree, he married a Christian lady and raised his children according to the Christian beliefs, the prosecution observed.
