NEW EDIFICE: `Pratibha Bhavan' that houses APPSC
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission chairman Y. Venkatrami Reddy on Tuesday said that a proposal had been sent to the Government to bring in reforms in the commission. The reforms include bringing in a new pattern of examination and revision of the existing syllabus. Speaking to reporters after the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, inaugurated the swank four-storied `Pratibha Bhavan' housing the office of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), he said the commission was awaiting approval from the Government.
New exam pattern
"The reforms include introduction of a new pattern for conducting examination and revision of syllabus," Dr. Venkatarami Reddy said. "The idea of bringing in reforms to the commission was to eliminate any scope for mischief and allow more transparency," he added. Earlier, the Chief Minister, who arrived at 8 a.m., cut the ribbon to mark the occasion, went round the building and left for Vijayawada to join Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in touring the flood-affected areas in Krishna district. The new building constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.99 crores houses the chambers of the chairman, members, secretary and other sections. The commission chairman said the commission was also planning to introduce an annual calendar for the conduct of examinations. Agreeing that there was a delay in completing the recruitment process, he said the commission could not be held solely responsible for it. He said the foolproof system adopted by the commission did not give any scope for leakage of question papers.
Group-I interviews
To a query, he said the APPSC Group-I interviews would be completed by November 21 and the list of selected candidates was likely to be announced on November 25. Providing answer sheets under the Right to Information Act (RTI) was not possible, he said and added that such a move was opposed by the Union Public Service Commission.
