Amar and Ruth Misha bag titles

BANGALORE: The top seeds, V. Amar and Ruth Misha lived up to their billings winning the men's and women's singles titles respectively in the M.S. Ramaiah-Anandashram State ranking badminton championship, which concluded at Canara Union here on Tuesday.

Amar beat Anup Kiran 14-21, 21-14, 21-12 in the men's singles final, while Ruth Misha proved too good for Nsichitha 21-7,21-7 in the women's final.

In the veterans' section, former State champion Vasanth Kuamr (Syndicate Bank) scored a double — winning the singles and the doubles partnering Jayaram Pai.

The results (all finals): Men's singles: V. Amar bt M.D. Anup Kiran 14-21, 21-14, 21-12. Doubles: D. Guru Prasad-J.R. Sreenath bt S. Krishna Kumar-Yeshu Kumar 21-10, 21-8.

Women's singles: Ruth Misha bt G.M. Nischitha 21-7, 21-7.

Veteran's singles: K.P. Vasanth Kumar bt Vinay Siddaraj 21-16, 14-21, 21-17. Doubles: Vasanth Kumar-Jayaram Pai bt Vinay Siddaraj-Ravikanth 22-20, 21-18.

Daniel Raj loses

Three upsets marked the second day of the Glucovita -AITA Super series (under-14 and 16) tennis championship here.

Vinod Gowda knocked out the second seed A. Daniel Raj of AP 8-7 (11-9) in the best of 15 games first round tie in the boys' under-16 singles.

Due to inclement weather, all preliminary round matches were played on the best-of-15-game format. In the girls' under-14 singles second round Sansitha Nandakumar upset the seventh seed Bhavana Suresh of AP 8-5. Rachita Sarda of Karnataka humbled the fourth seed J. Kesika of TN 8-2 in the under-16 singles.

SAI struggles to win

SAI (South) made a heavy weather of its `A' division State volleyball league match against a mediocre ITI before prevailing in five sets here on Tuesday.

SAI won 25-17, 25-16, 18-25, 21-25, 15-12 in 95 minutes. This was SAI's first win in two matches although it did earn full points from its walk-over from AGORC.

MEG too posted its first win with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 victory over HMT.MEG had lost to CIL earlier in its other outing.

In the third match former champions Postal downed BEL 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21with former international Laxminarayana blazing away with some steep smashes.

Inter-collegiate meet

The Peoples Education Society Institute of Technology (PESIT) will conduct an inter-collegiate sports meet `Infini 2006' here from November 30 to December 2. For details, call: 9845040372.

Equestrian meet

The FEI World jumping challenge and National Equestrian championship will be held at the Agaram grounds in the ASC Centre here from December 1 to 6. It would be for the first time that an international event is being organised at Bangalore, along with the National meet.

Koteshwara tops

N. Kotteshwara, Victory Gym, with a total lift of 220kg topped the 62kg category in the 38th State senior weightlifting championship. Kotteshwara lifted 97kg in snatch and 123kg in clean and jerk.

The results: 56kg: 1. Basavaraj (VSMS) 85 + 107 (192kg). 62kg: 1. N. Kotteshwara (Victory) 97 + 123 (220kg).

Masters Aquatics

Karnataka will field a 68-member contingent for the third Masters aquatics championship to be held in Thruvanathapuram from November 10 to 12. The team will leave on Wednesday.

Good show by Savur

Veteran Arvind Savur notched up a facile 721-368 victory over Vinay Katrela in the State senior ranking billiards championshipon Tuesday.
