Guwahati: North Zone claimed two points from its Group `B' Duleep Trophy league encounter against East Zone, which ended in a draw at the Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

East, which resumed at 215 for four, lost skipper Sourav Ganguly early. Ganguly was caught behind off Joginder Sharma without adding to his overnight score of 118.

After the skipper's exit, the East batsmen fell in quick succession and the team was bowled out for 295. This was in reply to North's huge total of 504.

Rohan Gavaskar (17) made a sizzling start, hitting two fours and a six, but an ambitious shot off Rajesh Sharma saw his stumps rearranged.

Deep Dasgupta (32) tried to stabilise the innings, but was caught by Mithun Manhas off Vishal Bhatia after adding just 10 to his overnight total.

For North Zone, Ashish Nehra and Rajesh Sharma claimed three wickets each.

Good start

North Zone began its second innings on a promising note with openers Ravneet Ricky and Akash Chopra adding 62 before the former was castled by Shibsagar Singh.

The match was called off at tea after bad light stopped play.
