NOVEL PROTEST: CPI activists polishing shoes in Tirupati on Tuesday to mobilise funds to `bribe' officials in order to get `pattas' in the trouble-torn Vedanthapuram village.
TIRUPATI: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) organised a mock shoe polish programme on Tuesday to "mobilise funds" to bribe the revenue officials, who had allegedly demanded money from the poor to sanction house site pattas. The activists led a demonstration at three busy centres here along with a number of homeless poor, whose "illegally erected" huts in Vedanthapuram village were pulled down by the revenue and police officials a couple of days back. While polishing shoes of the passersby, the activists explained the pathetic situation of the poor and the demand of the revenue authorities to the public. Meanwhile, party's State secretary K. Narayana has flashed off a letter to Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao explaining the issue and sought action against a Tirupati official for allegedly colluding with a TDP leader to grab the land.
