KANNUR: The Kerala Pradesh Karshaka Congress (KPKC) will hold a rights declaration meet at Iritty here on Thursday and Friday in protest against the `non-implementation' of the State Government's assurance to waive the loans taken by farmers. The meet also aims to highlight its charter of demands. KPKC State general secretary K.J. Joseph and State secretary A.D. Saboos said at a press conference here on Tuesday that the Government had betrayed the farmers, as it was yet to write off the agricultural loans. The KPKC demands that Kannur district be included in the agricultural package and pension sanctioned to the farmers. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the meet at 2 p.m. on Friday. A signature campaign will be organised to mobilise support for a memorandum demanding the inclusion of Kannur in the package. The memorandum will be sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.
