Now NIFT to award degrees

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will now award degrees. Earlier, it used to give diplomas to students.

According to an NIFT release, all programmes, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, would now be advertised as degree programmes. Students applying for the UG programmes will receive degrees, while those applying for the PG programmes will receive the Masters' degree after successful completion of their programmes.

The degrees would enable students to apply to other management colleges and foreign universities and also strengthen fashion education as a serious business study.

New chief for PCC Poorvanchal Cell

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma has appointed Shiva Ram Pandey as chairman of the Poorvanchal Cell of the PCC.

In a DPCC release, Mr. Sharma said: "Besides being a dedicated political worker, Mr. Pandey is an effective social worker also. I am hopeful that he will leave no stone unturned in solving the problems of Poorvanchalis."

Water supply to be affected

NEW DELHI: Because of interconnection work by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Wazirabad Road, water supply will be affected in Gokalpur village, Mukherji Nagar, Jahangirpuri and nearby areas on Thursday.

Similarly, due to repair work water supply will be available at low pressure on Thursday in MCD Colony, Azadpur, Azadpur village, Model Town, DTC Colony, SB Colony, Kewal Park, Adarsh Nagar group of colonies, Bharolla Village, Jahangirpuri Resettlement Colony, Lal Bagh, Sarai Peepal Thala and Bhalswa Village.

"A rising trend in obesity"

NEW DELHI: The soaring number of joint replacements signal a rising trend in obesity and a growing aged population, said Professor Surya Bhan, and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, at the Indian Orthopaedic Association conference here on Tuesday.

Stating that advancement in the field of ortho surgeries was taking place at a very fast pace elsewhere, he said India had been catching up as a result of more interaction and exchange programmes.
