Minister to hold meet

BANGALORE: Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa on Tuesday said Rs. 841 crore was required to repair the Tungabhadra right and left bank canals in Raichur and Bellary districts. Addressing presspersons here, he said a meeting of Irrigation officials and elected representatives from the region would be held on November 13 at Munirabad to chalk out a plan for repair work. The Cabinet meeting on Friday would take a decision on the Upper Bhadra project, he said. — Special Correspondent

`Not mandatory'

HUBLI: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti has said it is not mandatory to enclose a yoga course certificate while submitting applications for appointment of teachers. In a press release here on Tuesday, he said he had only stated that the Government was contemplating making "yoga education" mandatory. The Government would take a decision on preference to candidates who had undergone yoga training only after the Physical Education Committee submitted its report, he said. — Staff Correspondent

Cenco, HAL sign MoU

BANGALORE: Cenco International, a division of Techspace Aero S A, and ETBRDC, a division of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a long-term commercial and technical collaboration on design, manufacture and installation of gas turbine engine test equipment in the global market. The MoU was signed in the presence of Didier Reynders, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Belgium. — Staff Reporter

`Design a stamp contest 2006'

MYSORE: The "Design a stamp contest 2006" will be conducted for students studying up to class 12 at the auditorium of the Postal Training Centre, Nazarbad, Mysore, from 10 a.m. to noon on November 14. According to a press statement, the subject of the contest this year will be "Magic of the night". Application forms can be obtained from the office of Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Mysore Division, Yadavgiri, Mysore. Felicitation of Railway pensioners

MYSORE: Railway pensioners, who have completed 80 years, will be felicitated at a function in here on December 17 to mark Pensioners' Day. According to a press statement from Railway Pensioners' Association, Mysore, eligible members are requested to register their names with the association on its office premises before November 30. The monthly meeting of Railway Pensioners' Association will be held at Dalvoy's school in Mysore at 10 a.m. on November 12, the press statement added. — Staff Correspondent

Spoken English camp

MYSORE: The Jnanabutti organisation, Mysore, will be conducting a 45-day spoken English camp at Maharani's NTMS School on Narayanashastri Road in Mysore shortly.

According to a press statement from the organisation's English coaching coordinator J. Rajesh, interested candidates should register their names with the coordinator between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Maharani's NTMS School before November 14. The classes in spoken English will be conducted under the guidance of Bannur Sripathi, the press statement added. — Staff Correspondent

AIR bags award

MYSORE: Janapada Maha Bharatha, a feature produced by G.K. Raveendrakumar, poet and programme executive of All India Radio (AIR), Mysore, has won this year's State Award for Programme Excellence. According to an official press statement, the programme was based on the text of Janapada Mahabharatha, edited and published by P.K. Rajashekar, folk scholar. The songs of Janapada Mahabharatha were sung by Dr. Rajashekar and party. S Lakshminarayana has assisted in the production of the programme, the press statement said. With this year's State award, AIR, Mysore, has won three successive awards . — Staff Correspondent
