NIZAMABAD: Indian Medical Association district president Lakshma Reddy has disclosed that the association is planning to adopt 20 villages in the district to cover medical insurance for the poor and downtrodden for one full year. The process of identification of such villages is under way. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said many people in rural areas are in the `below poverty line' and cannot afford medical expenses. The IMA would provide them medical insurance by tying with an insurance company. The adoption would begin in January, he added. Dr. Reddy also said that the IMA in association with the Indian Red Cross Society, the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and the Nehru Yuva Kendra will organise a children's and adolescents' health week in different centres from November 8 to 14.
