Music promises to transcend borders at The Hindu Friday Review November Fest

Event to be held at The Music Academy from November 10 to 19

CHENNAI: Music lovers in the city need not wait till Margazhi (from mid-December to mid-January) to listen to spellbinding performances, for The Hindu Friday Review's music festival is here in November.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, V. Kalidas, Vice-President, Advertising, The Hindu, said the second edition of `The Hindu Friday Review November Fest' would be held at The Music Academy from November 10 to 19. Top-notch artists representing different genres will perform at the festival, which promises to be an interesting blend of melody and rhythm from different parts of the world.

With names such as Farida Khanum, ghazal exponent from Pakistan, and the Signum Quartett from Germany being featured, the festival is expected to be a beautiful display of music transcending geographical borders.

Indian flavour

And for the exquisite Indian flavour, veteran musician Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna would perform a jugalbandhi with renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Ajoy Chakrabarty. Mridangam maestro Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman, vocalist Aruna Sairam, chitra veena exponent N. Ravi Kiran, and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who is known for his mellifluous renditions on the mohan veena, are among the others who will perform.

Conference

In addition to the concerts, a conference on the theme `Reaching within: musical growth in an age of distraction' will be held on November 14. On November 15, `Aarar Asaippadaar', a film featuring musician Sanjay Subrahmanyan and directed by Prasanna Ramaswamy, will be premiered for an invited audience.

Parking arrangements

Speaking on parking arrangements, Mr. Kalidas said owner-driven cars could be parked on The Music Academy premises, depending on availability of space. Otherwise, they could be parked at St. Abba's School on Radhakrishnan Salai, along with other chauffeur-driven vehicles. A fleet of cars would also be made available to help rasikas get to the venue from the school, should it rain.

The title sponsor for the event is Geojit Securities. Bose, Kingfisher Airlines, RmKV and AVT Premium Coffee are associate sponsors. Taj Connemara is the hospitality partner.

K.V. Sanilkumar, Assistant Vice-President of Geojit Financial Services, said it was a matter of pride and honour to be associated with the event. "Our company has a strong presence in Tamil Nadu and particularly in Chennai. We deem it our privilege to sponsor such a programme here," he added.

Victor Niranjan, Vice-President, A.V. Thomas & Co., said the event would create history in the land of music.

"This fest has it all," he said.

"I am very happy to be associated with an event that features contemporary, popular, international and Indian music, all in one festival," said K. Sivakumar, Managing Partner, RmKV. Ratish Pande, General Manager, Bose India, sent a message wishing the event all success.
