MADIKERI: The Codava National Council (CNC), spearheading the struggle for an autonomous Kodava homeland in Kodagu district, will observe `national day' celebrations at the Gandhi maidan here on November 21, its secretary-general, N.U. Nachappa, has said. In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Nachappa said the occasion would provide another opportunity for Kodavas to interact with one another to further the demands of the CNC in a peaceful manner. Certain significant decisions and announcements would be made on the occasion, he said. Expressing happiness at the success of the Delhi satyagraha on November 1, which also marked protests against the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations in the State, Mr. Nachappa said the Karnataka Government should respect the sentiments of the CNC and concede its demands. The CNC had submitted memorandums to the President, the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Ms. Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the UPA, Mr. Nachappa said. CNC representatives had met Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ambareesh who heard their pleas, he said.
