Coast Guard rescues Sri Lankan boat

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Coast Guard came to the rescue of the crew of a Sri Lankan fishing boat, which developed an engine problem in Indian waters.

It located the vessel, Rajesh II, after a distress message was received last Saturday. A maritime reconnaissance aircraft located the boat and a Coast Guard vessel sailed out immediately. The engines were repaired in the sea and the five crew members provided first-aid, food and water.

Rajesh II was handed over to another Sri Lankan vessel about 7.30 p.m. on Monday .
