Kochi: The Kochi Corporation on Tuesday informed a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court that short term and long-term measures would be taken to treat solid waste generated in the city. In a statement, the Corporation said the naval authority extended till November 30 the permission given for dumping waste on the land near the naval airport. In fact, sites were identified at Cheranellor and Vypeen for dumping the waste after November 30. Search for sites at other places was on. The Corporation said the tender given by a firm based in Hyderabad was accepted for setting up a waste disposal plant at Brahmapuram. The site would be handed over by November 8 and work would begin on November 11. The construction would be over in 11 months. Effective steps were taken to set up biogas plants, for which bids were invited. Emergency measures were taken to remove garbage. The statement was filed in response to a writ petition seeking to prevent the spread of chikungunya. The Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice P.R. Raman reserved order on the petition when it came up on Tuesday.
