Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have arrested five persons, including a woman, on the charge of collecting large amounts of money from unemployed youth by promising them employment in the Indian Army and the Southern Railway. Sub Inspector, Thampanoor, Sheen Tharayil, identified the accused as Geeta Rani (47), Anandaraj (53), both hailing from Mavelikkara, Valsala Kumari (36), Anotnio (54) and Baby Lopuz (32), all residents of the city. The SI said the method of operation was to hire a posh house in the city and act as middlemen with great influence in the army and the railways. The accused would offer placements for Rs.1 lakh and above. The police said more than 65 youth had fallen victim to the employment racket. The accused were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
