Two held for allegedly cheating bank

NEW DELHI: The director of a private firm and his financial consultant have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police for allegedly duping State Bank of India of Rs.1 crore by submitting forged documents for purportedly mortgaging a property as collateral security.

According to the police, the Lajpat Nagar Branch of SBI had lodged a complaint about a firm, Unison Infotech India Limited at Madangir Village, which had availed of a loan of Rs.1 crore and defaulted on repayment. Earlier, inquiries by the Bank had revealed that the property documents submitted by the firm were forged.

Following investigations, the police arrested one of the directors of the firm, Ramneek Talwar, and his finance consultant, Manish Narula.

The police said the accused had shown a property of Shahdara, belonging to one Tara Devi Jain, as collateral security.

But investigations revealed that not only were the submitted documents forged, the same property had been pledged as collateral security to three other banks

Six held for allegedly stealing scrap

NEW DELHI: Six persons have been arrested by the North Delhi police for allegedly stealing metal scrap from godowns at various places across the Capital. The police claim to have recovered stolen goods worth Rs.21 lakhs from them. Two persons have been arrested for buying the stolen scrap from the accused.

According to the police, six persons -- identified as Raju Shivani, Kabir Sheikh, Kamal, Rakesh Kashyap, Maqsood Qasim and Naveen Kumar -- were arrested at Company Bagh in Chandni Chowk on Monday. Besides the recovered goods, the police also seized country-made revolvers, knives and two vehicles used to ferry the stolen goods at the spot.
