U.P. results satisfy Vajpayee

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has expressed "satisfaction" over the Bharatiya Janata Party's performance in the Uttar Pradesh local body elections, saying the party workers had done their best despite very trying circumstances.

While emphasising the importance of unity in the party ranks, he called upon the party workers to work hard to gain people's trust.

BJP president Rajnath Singh said the credit for the victory went to the party workers and the State unit. While congratulating them, he expressed the hope that the party would emerge the single largest party in the coming Assembly elections. He did not think that the official absence of the Bahujan Samaj Party had in any way helped the BJP perform better.
