GE Energy scouting for nuclear deals

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Even as the nuclear deal with the US is yet to come through, the nuclear energy division chief of the $163-billion GE conglomerate is in India on a scouting mission in a bid to renew old ties after a gap of 32 years.

The President and CEO (Nuclear energy), Andrew C. White, has had talks with top officials of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) in Mumbai.

Mr. White also had meetings with various power equipment suppliers, including Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), apart from paying a courtesy call on the Chairman of NTPC.

However, he would not be meeting any government officials during this visit.

In an interaction with newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr White expressed confidence that the nuclear agreement would finally come through and thus pave the way for reviving the age-old ties.
