DUBAI:
The head of the Palestinian group Hamas declared on Wednesday that his organisation was free to attack Israel following the shelling by Israeli tanks, which killed at least 18 Palestinians. Khalid Meshaal, Damascus-based top leader of Hamas, said activists of the group should re-launch their strikes against Israel. "There must be a roaring reaction so that we avenge all those victims," Mr. Meshaal said at a press conference. The killings also dashed hopes for the early formation of a Palestinian unity government that was expected to include representatives from Hamas and the Fatah party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni regretted the killings
