Sadananda Gowda may get another term: Yediyurappa

Staff Correspondent

  • Centre impartial on Kalasa-Banduri: Yediyurappa
  • `Party leaders keen on fielding candidate in byelection'

BANTWAL: President of the State unit of the BJP D.V. Sadananda Gowda in all likelihood will emerge as the consensus candidate and continue in the post for one more term, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said.

Mr. Yediyurappa also downplayed reports on the separate trips made by him and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to New Delhi on Tuesday.

Mr. Yediyurappa said the Centre was acting impartially on the Kalasa-Banduri Nala dispute. Even the Prime Minister had assured a State delegation, which met him recently, that he would convince the Goa Government to drop its objections to the project.

Asserting that it was the opinion of State and national leaders as well as party workers in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency that the party should field a candidate in the byelection, Mr. Yediyurappa said party leaders would meet in Bangalore in one or two days and take a decision in this regard. Refuting the claims of leaders of fishermen that the Government had not implemented the assurances made in the budget, Mr. Yediyurappa said every assurance, including providing more kerosene to them, would be implemented in right earnest. The Government had also taken steps to release Rs. 40 crore for construction of a new-vented dam for drinking water project at Thumbay in the taluk, he added.

On reports of senior IAS officers queuing up for Central deputation unable to stand the constant interference in their work, the Deputy Chief Minister said these were not true.
