DAVANGERE: The State Government will cancel licences of Kannada medium schools that are running classes in English medium by the beginning of the next academic year, said Basavaraj S. Horatti, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education. Similarly, learning of Kannada would be made compulsory in CBSE schools in the State from the next academic year, he said. He told presspersons at Harihar that English would be taught from the first standard from the next academic year. The Minister said he would soon consult academic experts and take a decision on whether to continue the semester scheme or not. The proposed transfer policy would again be placed before the Cabinet meeting and after getting the approval, it would be sent to the Governor, the Minister said. To a question, he said the Governor had sent back the proposed transfer policy without putting his signature seeking certain clarifications. Discussions were on between the coalition partners Janata Dal (S) and the BJP on whether to field a common candidate for the Chamundeshwari bypoll, the Minister said. He said decisions in this regard would not strain the relationship between them.
